Shielding Design

Medical Physics Consultants, Inc. (MPC) has assembled a team of national and regional experts to address any radiation shielding issues for your facility. MPC works closely with many national and regional architectural firms as well as regulatory bodies and maintains an excellent reputation with both groups.

Our radiation shielding protocol includes, exam room design, radiation shielding plan design and shield integrity testing for the following imaging modalities:

Nuclear Medicine Shielding - Not historically thought of as having "shielding issues". MPC has found many facilities to require room shielding to prevent "cross-talk" from either injected patient traffic patterns and/or exercise treadmill placement, relative to camera detector orientation. Additionally with the growth of SPECT / CT, this modality obviously requires structural shielding beyond general Nuclear Medicine.

PET and PET / CT Shielding - The 511 keV photons from PET introduce not only shielding issues but structural integrity issues as well.

Radiographic / Fluoroscopic / CCL / CT - The national growth patterns of CT size and usage introduces unique shielding issues that MPC is well equipped to handle.

ICANL Accreditation Services
MPC offers a variety of levels of service complexity for the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL) accreditation services. Our dedicated ICANL service staff, includes a former ICANL field inspector. Consultation is available to assist your staff in the form of guidance for your own in-house submission to a complete start-to-finish ICANL application service.

ACR Accreditation Services
MPC's American College of Radiology accreditation service includes elements within both diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. We have historically provided this comprehensive accreditation service on a nationwide basis. Our wealth of worldwide experience and recognition in nuclear medicine camera acceptance testing has provided a very solid basis for the ACR accreditation process. Provision of initial as well as annual camera, SPECT and PET testing is offered to fill your needs.
