MPC Employee Receives Prestigious Award

Medical Physics Consultants, Inc

Recently one of MPC’s illustrious physicists (Sharon Updike, MS, DABR) was honored at the spring meeting of the Central Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (CCSMMI).  Sharon was presented with the Steven M. Pinsky Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor the CCSNMMI can bestow upon a member. This distinguished service award or gold medal was to recognize her outstanding leadership in organized medicine and community relations and her many years of dedicated service to radiology and nuclear medicine.

Sharon’s dedicated work with the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging and the Central Chapter of the SNMMI is why she received this award, serving as president for two years during the pandemic. Leading up to this, she served on the Board of Governors from 2014-2017 before becoming the Secretary-Treasurer in 2017-2018, then President-Elect in 2018-2019 and then President in 2019 -2020 and 2020-2021. She also served as program chair for the Central Chapter Annual Spring Meeting. She is currently on the Board of Governors in her position as Past President.

Sharon has been married many years to her husband Jeff. They have two boys, Jeffrey and Michael, who are grown but live close by. She has grown up and lived her entire life in Michigan. Some of her favorite activities are hiking their property, kayaking the local lakes, golfing, and listening to live music with family and friends. She also loves to go for runs with her Hungarian Vizsla,  Benson.

If Sharon happens to be your nuclear medical physicist please don’t hesitate to give her a high five – she has certainly earned this recognition!
