GE HealthCare Issues Stop Use Notice for Certain Nuclear Medicine Systems

Medical Physics Consultants, Inc
In mid October GE HealthCare released an Urgent Field Safety Notice (Ref #40909) advising customers to immediately stop using select Nuclear Medicine systems that are past their End of Guaranteed Service.

The alert follows reports that older, unsupported systems may have been transported or relocated without proper detector support, which could place stress on the detector mounts – and in rare cases – lead to a detector malfunction and potential injury. GE HealthCare emphasizes that no injuries or incidents have been reported to date. The safety notice states that the impacted systems (listed below) have not been manufactured for several years, and GE HealthCare has previously communicated End of Guaranteed Service for the impacted systems.
Facilities are instructed to immediately discontinue use of affected systems, notify all potential users of the safety communication, and contact GE HealthCare for removal, disposal, or replacement options.
